Rescate Verde

Our history.

Fundación Rescate Verde was created in 1998 by three Costa Ricans committed to emerging environmental challenges. Miguel Chacón-Vargas, entrepreneur and current president; Miguel Chacón-Arce (+), pioneer in sustainable human, and Humberto Morales-Guzmán (+), historian and key figure in the country's environmental legislation.

Since its inception, the Foundation has worked in the protection of vulnerable ecosystems, the promotion of public policies, active participation in conservation systems such as the Guanacaste and Tempisque Areas, and advising developers and local communities.

After a transitional period marked by the loss of two of its founders and a fire at its headquarters in 2016, the Foundation redefined its strategic direction. As of 2019, it reorganized around three core pillars:

  • Participation and empowerment of women and youth

  • Technology and information in service of sustainability

  • Sustainable productive models for regenerative development

Today, we work on concrete proposals for environmental restoration, aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change and reversing the degradation of both ecosystems and the social and territorial structures that support them.
